Design philosophy

Our design principles, approaches, and ambitions shape a strong direction with your team, turning your project into a work of art.

Guiding principles

CEBRA creates architecture to move people. By combining a deep understanding of the project context and the client’s needs with a strong artistic ambition, we design meaningful spaces that inspire people, stimulate the senses, connect to nature, and encourage positive change.

Artistic Leadership

We create architecture for the senses

In interdisciplinary teams, we practise artistic leadership. We speak up for emotional impact and create architecture that is bold, beautiful and useful.

Human Insight

We listen to the world around us

Empathy is at the core of how we create architecture that stimulates people and inspires communities. We believe that architecture can truly change our lives for the better.

Forward Thinking

We craft adaptive ideas

By recognising that constant change is a given, we take pride in designing solutions that may evolve over time and are relevant both now and in the future.

Sustainable Action

We understand the urgency to act

We feel a great responsibility to create architecture that lasts for generations and is cared for and loved by its users. We design holistic solutions that leave a positive imprint.

We design significant spaces

Dialogue, empathy, and trust are at the core of how we work, forming a great collaborative spirit with your team. With an open mind, we work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand the culture, local conditions, and user needs. Working with us, a partner is closely involved with your team at every stage, ensuring confidence, continuity, and a strong architectural direction from the outset through handover.

We build drawings, turning your project into a work of art. As in any artistic practice, each project has customised stages. With more than 25 years of experience, we tailor our collaboration to your needs and build a creative process that reflects your ambitions. Often inspired by cultural crafts, each of our works has a recognisable signature – an artist’s touch – even as the form, scale, and materiality vary. With the client, we always aim to create architecture that fosters well-being, reflection, and community among users. We aim to improve their social conditions, acknowledging how spaces shape the way people live, connect, belong, and rely. This approach is consolidated in the WISE programme. Here, experience from extensive user involvement and insights from neuroarchitecture and innovation environments inform project-specific design objectives and sensory-forward spatial qualities.

Unlike many other art forms, architecture can adapt to changing needs over time and support long-term use. Our ambition is to create spaces that people use, maintain, and develop for generations. Design – whether urban planning, buildings, interior, or landscape – that is precise in performance and provides a distinct experience that speaks to your eyes, heart, and mind every time you visit.

We enable informed decision-making on environmental impact. Over time, our ambition is for all projects to operate within the planet’s limits, defined by the Planetary Boundaries – seven of which have already been exceeded globally. Based on climate science, CEBRA uses the Butterfly Framework to guide your environmental strategy, focusing on how impacts on climate stability and functioning ecosystems are interconnected. Therefore, we work in three ways: as activists, by helping push science-based legislation and decision-making through the Reduction Roadmap; through research, by participating in projects that expand knowledge and develop new tools; and through architecture, by integrating the potential for reduced environmental impact into our design process with our clients. To support this, we aim to preserve, refurbish, and repurpose what already exists, adding compelling chapters to the architectural heritage.
